১. নাম ও পরিচিতি:
হযরত আবু হুরায়রা (রাঃ) এর নামের ব্যপারে অনেক দ্বিপাক্ষিক অভিমত পাওয়া যায়। ইসলামের ইতিহাসে প্রসিদ্ধ মত অনুযায়ী ইসলাম গ্রহণের পূর্বে তাঁর নাম ছিল আবদুশ্ শামস বা আবদে উমর। ইসলাম ধর্ম গ্রহণের পর তাঁর নাম নির্ধারিত রাখা হয় আবদুর রহমান। তিনি দক্ষিণ আরবের আযদ গোত্রের সুলায়ম ইবন ফাহাম বংশোদ্ভূত উত্তরাধিকারী ছিলেন। তাঁর পিতার নাম ছিলো সাখর এবং জন্মদাতা মাতার নাম উম্মিয়া বিনতে সফীহ মতান্তরে মায়মুনা। তিনি হিজরী পূর্বকালে পৃথিবীতে আগমন করেন। বিড়াল ছানাকে ভালবাসতেন বিধায় প্রিয় রাসূল (সাঃ) তাকে “আবূ হুরায়রা” তথা বিড়াল ছানার মালিক বা পিতা উপনামে বা ছদ্মনামে ডাকতেন। এ উপনামেই তিনি অধিক জনপ্রিয় ও পরিচিত।
২. নামকরণ:
আবু হুরায়রা নামটিতে একটি মজার কাহিনী লুকায়িত রয়েছে। একদিন হযরত আবু হুরায়রা (রা.) শরীরের জামার আস্তিনের নিচে একটি ছোট বিড়াল ছানা নিয়ে রাসুল (সাঃ) এর পবিত্র দরবারে উপস্থিত হন। ঐ বিড়ালটি হঠাৎ পকেট থেকে সকলের সামনে বেরিয়ে পড়ল। এ অবস্থা দেখে রাসুল (সাঃ) তাঁকে রসিকতা করে হুরায়রা কে বললেন ‘হে বিড়ালের পিতা’! বলে সম্বোধন করলেন। এরপর থেকে তিনি আবু হুরায়রা নামে জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করেন। তাছাড়া পরবর্তীতে আবু তুরাব নামে তাকে অনেকেই ডাকতেন । একদিন তিনি মাটিতে শুয়ে আছেন দেখে মুহাম্মদ (সাঃ) বললেন কিহে, আবু তুরাব মাটিতে শুয়ে আছ কি কারনে? এর পর থেকে তার নাম আবু তুরাব বেশ পরিচিতি পায়।
৩. ইসলাম গ্রহণ:
তিনি ৬২৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দ মোতাবেক সপ্তম হিজরীতে আরবী মুহররম মাসে খায়বর যুদ্ধের প্রাক্কালে মদীনায় ইসলাম ধর্ম গ্রহণ করেন। তখন তাঁর বয়স হয়েছিল ৩০ বছরের মত।
৪. যুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ:
ইসলাম গ্রহণের পর হতে তিনি ইসলামের সকল যুদ্ধের ময়দানে নবীজি (সাঃ) এ সাথে অংশ গ্রহণ করেন। ইবনে আসীর এ বিষয়ে বলেন,
অর্থাৎ, তিনি মুহাম্মাদের সাথে সকল যুদ্ধে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
৫. ইসলামের দাওয়াত:
নবীজি (সাঃ) এর জীবদ্দশায় আবু হুরায়রা (রাঃ)এর জন্মদাতা বৃদ্ধা মা ছিলেন। তখনও তাঁর মা পৌত্তলিকতার ওপর কঠোরভাবে অটল ছিলেন। আবু হুরায়রা তাঁর মাকে সব সময় ইসলামের দাওয়াত দিতেন, কিন্তু তাঁর মাতা তা সম্পুর্নরুপে অস্বীকার করতেন। ফলে তিনি দুঃখ ও খারাপ মনোভাব অনুভব করতেন। একদিন তাঁর মাকে আল্লাহ ও রাসুলের প্রতি ঈমান আনার আহ্বান জানালে তাঁর মা মুহাম্মাদ (সাঃ) এর প্রতি অশ্রাব্য ভাষায় গালিগালাজ ও বাজে ভাষা ব্যাবহার করেন। এতে হযরত আবু হুরায়রা (রাঃ) ভীষণ মর্মাহত হয়ে কাঁদতে কাঁদতে নবীজি (সাঃ) এর পবিত্র দরবারে উপস্থিত হলেন। মুহাম্মাদ (সাঃ) তাঁকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, কেন কাঁদছো? তিনি বললেন, আমি সব সময় আমার মাকে ইসলাম ধর্মের দাওয়াত দেই, কিন্তু তিনি তা অস্বীকার করে এড়িয়ে চলেন। প্রতিদিনের মতো আজো আমি তাকে ইসলাম ধর্মের দাওয়াত দিয়েছিলাম। এরপর তিনি আপনার সম্পর্কে এমন কিছু কথা বলেছেন যা আমাকে ভীষণ পীড়া ও খুব কষ্ট দিয়েছে। ইয়া রাসুলাল্লাহ! দু’আ করুন আল্লাহ যেন আমার মায়ের হৃদয়কে ইসলামের পবিত্র আলোয় আলোকিত করে তুলেন। তখন রাসুল (সাঃ) দু হাত তুলে দু’আ করলেন ‘হে আল্লাহ! আবু হুরায়রার মাকে হেদায়াত দান কর ও তাকে ইসলামের পথে কবুল কর।’এর ফলেই হুরায়রা এর মা ইসলামের ছাঁয়াতলে প্রবেশ করে নিজেকে ধন্য করেন।
৬. হাদীসে তাঁর অবদান:
সাহাবীগনের মধ্যে তিনিই সর্বাধিক হাদীস রচনা করেন। তাঁর বর্ণিত হাদীসের পরিমান মোট ৫৩৭৪টি মতান্তরে এর সংখ্যা দাড়ায় ৫৩৭৫টি। এজন্য তাকে রাবীদের নেতা বলে অভিহিত করা হয়। ইমাম বুখারীর মত অনুসারে , প্রায় ৮ শতাধিক রাবী তাঁর থেকে হাদীস বর্ণনা করেছেন। হুরায়রা আসহাবে সুফ্ফা এর অন্তর্ভূক্ত ছিলেন।
৭. ইন্তেকাল:
ইসলামের ইতিহাস অনুসারে তার মৃত্য হয়েছিল ৫৭ মতান্তরে ৫৮/৫৯ হিজরীতে। তাকে পবিত্র স্থান জান্নাতুল বাকী’ তে সমাধি করা হয়।

1. Name and Contact:
There are many bipartisan opinions about the name of Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA). According to popular opinion in the history of Islam, his name before accepting Islam was Abdush Shams or Abde Umar. After accepting Islam, his name was fixed as Abdur Rahman. He was a descendant of Sulaym ibn Faham of the Azad tribe of southern Arabia. His father's name was Sakhar and his birth mother's name was Ummiya bint Safih Matantare Maymuna. He came to earth before Hijri. The beloved Prophet (PBUH) used to call him “Abu Huraira” i.e. the owner or father of the kitten by nickname or pseudonym because he loved the kitten. He is more popular and known by this nickname.
2. Naming:
An interesting story is hidden in the name Abu Huraira. One day Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) came to the holy court of Rasul (S.A.W.) with a small kitten under the sleeve of his robe. The cat suddenly came out of the pocket in front of everyone. Seeing this situation, the Prophet (PBUH) joked with him and said to Huraira, "O father of cats"! He addressed. Since then he gained popularity as Abu Hurairah. Moreover, later many people called him Abu Turab. One day, seeing him lying on the ground, Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Abu Turab, why are you lying on the ground?"his name Abu Turab.
3. Acceptance of Islam:
He embraced Islam in Madinah on the eve of the Battle of Khaybar in the Arabic month of Muharram in the seventh Hijri of 629 AD.when He was just 30 years old .
4. Participation in war:
After accepting Islam, he participated with the Prophet (PBUH) in all the battlefields of Islam. Ibn Asir said about this:
That is, he was present in all the battles with Muhammad.
5. Invitation to Islam:
During the lifetime of the Prophet (PBUH), Abu Huraira (RA) was the mother of the old woman. Even then his mother was rigidly adamant about paganism. Abu Huraira always invited his mother to Islam, but her mother completely rejected it. As a result he felt sad and bad attitude. One day when his mother called him to believe in Allah and the Messenger, his mother abused Muhammad (PBUH) in an inaudible language and used bad language. Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) was very saddened by this and came to the Holy Court of the Prophet (S.A.W.) crying. Muhammad (pbuh) asked him, why are you crying? He said, I always invite my mother to Islam, but she refuses and avoids it. Like every day, I invited him to Islam. Then he said something about you that caused me great pain and suffering. Ya Rasulullah! Make dua that Allah enlightens my mother's heart with the holy light of Islam. Then the Prophet (PBUH) raised his hands and prayed, 'O Allah! Give guidance to the mother of Abu Huraira and accept her on the path of Islam. As a result, Huraira's mother blessed herself by entering the shade of Islam.
6. His Contribution to Hadith:
Among the Companions, he wrote the most hadiths. The total number of hadiths narrated by him is 5374, but its number stands at 5375. That is why he is called the leader of the rabbis. According to Imam Bukhari, about 800 rabbis narrated hadiths from him. The Hurayrah Companions belonged to the Suffa.
7. Death:
According to Islamic history he died in 57 Matantar 58/59 Hijri. He was buried in the holy place Jannatul Baki.
