বিশ্বের অন্যতম বৃহৎ এবং জনপ্রিয় সার্চ ইঞ্জিন গুগলের বয়স একুশ হয়েছে।
গুগল গোটা পৃথীবী প্রায় কোটি কোটি মানুষ প্রতিদিন ব্যবহার করছেন , এবং অনেকের কাছেই এটি অতি পরিচিত ইন্টারনেট কার্যক্রমে এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ হয়ে উঠেছে।
বর্তমানে গুগল এখন শুধুই একটি সার্চ ইঞ্জিনে সীমাবদ্ধ নয়, বরং গুগল হচ্ছে প্রযুক্তি কোম্পানি।
গুগলের একুশ বছর পূর্তির দিনে জেনে নিন এমন একুশটি গুরুত্বপুর্ন তথ্য যা হয়তো আপনার অজানা ছিল, অবশ্য যদি আপনি ইতোমধ্যেই এই তথ্যগুলো গুগল থেকে অথবা'গুগল করে' জেনে নিয়ে না থাকেন!
১.প্রথমটিতে হয়তো বিস্মিত হবার তেমন কিছু নেই।কারন গুগুল হচ্ছে পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে বেশি জনপ্রিয় ভিজিটেড ওয়েবসাইট, অর্থাৎ ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারকারীদের মধ্যে অধিকাংশই এই ওয়েবসাইটটিতে অন্তত একবার প্রবেশ করে ঘুরে গেছেন।
২. জানা যায় গুগল শুরু করেছিলেন ২জন কলেজ ছাত্র তাদের নাম ল্যারি পেজ এবং সের্গেই ব্রিন। তারা চেয়েছিলেন এমন একটা ওয়েবসাইট তৈরি করতে যার মাধ্যমে অন্য সকল ওয়েবপেজগুলোর একটা তুলনামূলক তালিকা নির্নয় করা। মুল ভিত্তি প্রধানত বাকী সাইটগুলোর মধ্যে কি পরিমান তাদের সাথে একত্রিত হয়েছেন ।
৩.গুগল শব্দটা উৎপত্তি 'গুগোল' (googol) শব্দ থেকে যা একটি বিশেষ সংখ্যার নাম। সংখ্যাটি ছিল : ১ এর পিঠে ১০০টা শূন্য বসালে যা হয় তাই। কেন এই গুগল নাম বেছে নিয়েছিলেন ল্যারি আর সের্গেই? তাদের website যে অফুরন্ত তথ্য উপাত্ত ঘাঁটাঘাঁটি অনুসন্ধান করবে গুগল নাম দিয়ে বোঝাতে চেয়েছিলেন তারা।
৪. প্রথম গুগল ডুডল অর্থাৎ গুগলের হোম পেজে ব্যবহৃত কোন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ঘটনা বা দিনের স্মারক হিসেবে যে ছবি ব্যবহৃত হয় তা তৈরি করা হয়েছিল ১৯৯৮ সালে, বার্নিং ম্যান নামের একটি আনন্দ উৎসব উদযাপনের জন্য। গুগলের জনক ধারনা করেন এর মাধ্যমে তারা তথ্য দেবেন তারা অফিসে কেন অনুপস্থিত।
৫.গুগলের সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় স্মরণীয় ডুডলগুলোর অন্যতম হচ্ছে চাঁদে পানির উপস্থিতি আবিষ্কার, এবং জন লেননের সত্তর তম জন্মদিন উদযাপনের জন্য। জন লেননের ডুডলটি আবার ছিল মুলত প্রথম ভিডিও ডুডল হিসাবে ।
৬.প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে গুগলকে স্থাপন করা হয়েছিল লেগোর একটি কাস্টম কেসে।
৭. গুগলের প্রধান হেডঅফিস 'গুগলপ্লেক্স' নামে পরিচিত এবং এটির অবস্থান ছিল ক্যালিফোর্নিয়ার সিলিকন ভ্যালি শহরে।
৮.গুগলপ্লেক্সে টি রেক্স জাতীয় ডাইনোসরের মতো একটি বিশাল আকারের মূর্তি রয়েছে যার ওপর প্রায়ই অসংখ্য প্লাস্টিকের তৈরি গোলাপি কালারের ফ্ল্যামিঙ্গো বসে থাকতে দেখা যায়।জনে জনে গুজব রয়েছে যে এটা হচ্ছে মুলত কর্মচারীদের প্রতি এক সতর্কবানী যেন তারা কখনো গুগলকে বিলুপ্ত হতে না দেন।
৯. গুগলের হেডকোয়ার্টারটি বিশাল আকারের এবং এর ভেতরে অনেক সবুজ রঙের জায়গা আছে। এখানে ঘাস ছাটানোর জন্য লনমোয়ার মেশিন ব্যবহার করা হয় না। এ কাজের জন্য গুগল বাইরে থেকে ছাগল ভাড়া করে নিয়ে আসে।
১০. গুগল হচ্ছে পৃথিবীর প্রথম বড় প্রযুক্তি কোম্পানি যারা তাদের নিযুক্ত কর্মচারীদের বিনামূল্যে খাবার পরিবেশন করে। তাছাড়া কর্মরত কর্মচারীদেরকে তাদের পোষা কুকুর অফিসে নিয়ে আসতে দেয়া হয়।
১১. ২০০১ সালে চালু করা হয় প্রথম গুগল ইমেজ সার্চ যার অনুপ্রেরণা ছিল ২০০০ সালের গ্র্যামি পুরস্কার প্রদান অনুষ্ঠানে জেনিফার লোপেজের পরা একটি সবুজ পোশাক। পরবর্তীতে এটি গুগলের সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় সার্চে পরিণত হয়েছিল।
১২. গুগলের নিজস্ব ইমেইল সেবা জিমেইলের সুবিধার কথা ঘোষণা করা হয় ২০০৪ সালে ১লা এপ্রিল বা এপ্রিল ফুলস উর্যাপন ডে তে। অনেকেই ভেবেছিলেন যে প্রকৃতপক্ষে এটা আসলে একটা রসিকতা মাত্র।
১৩. গুগলকে একটি নতুন ক্রিয়াপদ হিসেবে ('গুগল করা' অর্থে) প্রথম অভিধানে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করা হয় ২০০৬ সালে।তবে মিরিয়াম ওয়েবস্টার অভিধান লিখেছিল, গুগল করা মানে 'ওয়ার্ল্ড ওয়াইড ওয়েব থেকে কোন প্রয়োজনীয় বার্তা সার্চের জন্য গুগল সার্চ ইঞ্জিন ব্যবহার করা।'
১৪.ইউটিউব মুলত গুগল পরিবারের সদস্য হয় ২০০৬ সালের সময়ে। প্রায় ১৫০ কোটি ডলারেরও বেশি দামে ইউটিউবকে কিনে নেয় গুগল কতৃপক্ষ । হিসাবে এখন ইউটিউবের মাসিক ব্যবহারকারী প্রায় দুইশত কোটি। প্রতি মিনিটে ইউটিউবে আপলোড হয় চারশত ঘন্টার ভিডিও।
১৫. গুগলের একজন ইঞ্জিনিয়ার ২০০৯ সালে একবার কোন কারনে ইন্টারনেট ব্যবস্থা 'ধসিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন' । তিনি দুর্ঘটনাবশত: গুগলের ব্লকড ওয়েবসাইটের রেজিস্ট্রিতে ফরোয়ার্ড স্ল্যাশ চিহ্নটি ভুলে যোগ করে ফেলেছিলেন। যেহেতু এখন প্রায় প্রতিটি ওয়েবসাইটেই স্লাশ আছে, তাই সেসময় অনলাইনে কোন ওয়েবসাইটেই প্রবেশ করা যাচ্ছিল না।
১৬.গুগলের শতকরা ১৫ ভাগ হচ্ছে একেবারে নতুন যা পুর্বে কখনো সার্চ করা হয় নি গুগলে।

২০. এ্যাপোলো এগারোতে চড়ে চাঁদে মানুষ পাঠাতে যে পরিমান কম্পিউটিং ক্ষমতা ব্যবহৃত হয়েছিল এখন মাত্র একটি গুগল সার্চে প্রায় সেই পরিমাণ কম্পিউটিং ক্ষমতা কাজে ব্যায় করা হয়।
২১.বলা যায় গুগল এখন শুধু একটি সার্চ ইঞ্জিন নয়। হয়তো ভবিষ্যতে কোন একদিন এখানে থাকবে কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা, স্ট্রিমিং ভিত্তিক বিভিন্ন গেম খেলার ব্যবস্থা, এমনকি ড্রাইভারবিহীন গাড়ি চালনার দক্ষতা ইত্যাদি ।
